The geography of housing sustainability in the Reykjavik Capital Region

This project examined the spatial relationships between life satisfaction, housing satisfaction, population density, and consumption-based carbon footprints within the Reykjavík Capital Region. The analysis used data from a Nordic lifestyle and carbon footprint survey conducted between 2021 and 2022, focusing on 1,085 respondents living in the Capital Region. Survey responses on overall life satisfaction, housing satisfaction, and consumption patterns were combined with geographic information systems (GIS) to map how these factors are distributed across neighborhoods.

The results show that both overall life satisfaction and housing satisfaction were generally high throughout the Capital Region. However, distinct spatial clusters of lower and higher satisfaction were observed.
